May 09

Anyone living in the Cape region that didn’t make it to at least one wine estate during May, surely missed out. On offer were spectacular autumn colours and a lot of “Kodak Moments”. It was a busy month on Spit or Swallow which consisted out of quirky comments, competitive voting and obviously a lot of drinking. So here is the Top Wine Farms for the month of May:
Zorgvliet

By reading the 7 comments that Zorgvliet received up to date, it’s probably no big surprise that they scored a remarkable ...

6 Premium Wines Up For Grabs

The Spit or Swallow website underwent some plastic surgery and the new “look” was launched in May. By logging in with your facebook account, the user can access their personal profiles. This enables the user to keep track of the wine estates they’ve visited, as well as their personal comments on each wine farm.
To encourage people to sign up as a “Wine Fly”, Spit or Swallow will be running a competition during May. We will be giving away 6 Premium South African Wines to the lucky winner. Each “Wine Fly” ...

April 09

The month of April consisted mostly out of public holidays, the final drips of summer and political campaigning . The last obviously forced a few people to the wine lands, which resulted in a lot of activity on Spit or Swallow. Luckily there’s no need to delay the announcement, or for a commercial break. So with no further adieu here’s the top wine farms for the month of April:
Vrede en Lust

Number 2 last month, Number 1 this month. Well done to Vrede en Lust for keeping up the good work ...

JP Bredell Wines

Winter is just around the corner, so it’s time to stock-up on some fire wood, Corenza C and Port.
At least I can tick the port off on my diddit.com list, thanks to JP Bredell. They are not very big on their white and red wines, but according to our host, when it comes to making Port, they are right up there. Unfortunately we could not taste the “Best Port”, but the port on offering was not bad.
Our host, Nerrisha Julius, was in need of some Corenza C though. Hats ...

Zandberg

I’ve heard a lot of good things about the 96 Winery Road Restaurant, but I did not know that they are right next door to a wine estate that’s about to make history!
We were welcomed by Nick Ridley. He was friendly, chatty, charming and he made us feel right at home. He inform us that Zandberg will release the first ever white Merlot at the end of May. What? Now there’s a tasting not to be missed! No fear to experiment here at Zandberg it seems! They were the first ...

Thelema Mountain Vineyards

Just up the road from Tokara you will find Thelema. It’s a modern winery with amazing views.
Unfortunately our host could not tell us anything about this lovely place. Her exact words: ” I’ll give you a piece of paper that will explain everything.” I decided to keep the piece of paper for some bedtime reading. Our host disappeared to the back and we were left with 2 Swedish tourists. They saw the “piece of paper” as a big insult and left.
The wines that we tasted were good and well priced, ...
