Thanks for getting back to us. As you know, we are one of the small number of local wineries that do not charge for tastings. One of the reasons for doing this, is because we know that students are tomorrow’s market and wine buyers!
We are sold out of a few wines, in specific the Mocholate Malbec, Viognier and Barrique. The new vintages will be out in due course. On the day of your visit we were also waiting for stock of the chocolates offered with some of our red wines. I apologize for that.
I believe Alice called you and hopefully your issues have been addressed to your satisfaction?

Geagte Mr.Buys

Ek en 2 vriende het Vrede en Lust die middag van die 21ste Julie besoek. Ons het ongeveer half 3 daar aangekom en is half 5 daar weg. Ons het in die onthaal area gaan sit,terwyl daar 2 ander groepe van 2 persone elk buite op die deck gesit het. Daar was ‘n ander groep oorkant ons in die onthaal area van 3 persone.

Die rede vir die ongelukkigheid is dat ons gevoel het dat nie genoegsame aandag aan ons bestee is nie a.g.v die feit dat ons studente is. Hiermee wil ek net uitwys dat ons die toekomstige wyn liefhebbers is en dat ons hiervolgens behandel sal wil word. Ons optrede was volwasse en het getuig van goeie smaak.

Verder meer sou ons graag meer inligting rakende die plaas se geskiedenis wou versamel, maar weens die nie-bevredigende diens was ons ervaring egter beperk.

Die wyn is regtig baie lekker, maar die ervaring was teleurstellend.

We visited a few months ago,my other five friends(resident Overberg & Johannesburg) have visited most of South Africa’s wine farms over the years, I myself have spent more time up around the Bonnivale, Bon Courage ,Zandvliet and well basically a lot from Calitzdorp through Route 62.
I was a little sceptical as I’d never visited Fairview and I had this pre- conceived idea of “Touristy”(Big mistake having pre-conceived Ideas about Western Cape Wine farms!) I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of tasting ad hoc at the Bar and the beautiful Food tasting really is worth every cent!
I personally would recommend the Tasting of your fine Blue cheeses with the sweet chilli dips,the condiments and preserves are wide ranging and really challenge your taste buds.
So to conclude,I would say that Fairview have found a suitable balance between the Masses of tourist style turnover versus the more local patron,who I suppose is spoiled for choice let’s face it! It takes innovation in these times to keep a business profitable, I reckon the new La Capra range is right on the button and will appeal to the masses who look for quality in a wine of that price range.

What a great atmosphere with wonderful people with a passion for what they are doing and the international look on the way make it more special to visit. The wines are of outstanding taste. Their Merlot is a must as well as the Bandana Blanc. Special tastes of the Durbanville wine area. It all makes you want to go back. Cheers guys!

Absolutely loved JC Le Roux. All the MCC’s were fabulous. Especially the Pinot Noir and La Valee. Our attendant was very friendly and informative. It was quite a first experience for me. Can’t wait to visit them again, maybe next time I’ll do the nougat tasting as well.

My experience was not the best, even though the view is breathtaking. It definitely influenced my taste buds. It felt like we intruded and the tasting attendant didn’t really tell us much about the wines, even though I asked several questions to get her talking.

I should definitely go back again, and give them another try.

Such a special wine farm. They have a wonderful musuem full of Cape History and a wine tasting venue attached. The Fyndraai Restuarnt makes authentic Cape Cuisine and we had a superb meal there on a Food and Wine Pairing occasion.

The picnics are the highlight. The basket for 2 people is such value for money with more than enough food, water and a bottle of Lekkerwijn for R135 for 2 people. The riverside and forest setting is spectacular!!!!!

They have various fascinating tours that one can do ( archaeology, walking tour, social histort, food and wine pairing) well worth a look at.

The community spirit is one of the distinctive parts components of this farm – the staff and owner work together to make it prospur and the farm has such an authentic feel which many so lack.

I’ve only had the pleasure of a complimentary bottle of Solms_Delta Gemoedsrus so I reserve my opinion of the Estate until I visit soon. Based on this latest release they have been doing their homework well as it’s quite a revelation.

Totally unlike the normal Ports I’ve always had with Cheese as my “Dessert” course,I was pleasantly surprised by this Fortified Shiraz .”Desiccated on the vine” seems to impart an ability to hit your taste buds with a burst of concentrated fruits,herbs and spicy overtones which really do work well with a Fine cheese such as a Roydon Camembert or a French style brie.. I also found it worked really well with my Pan fried Duck and Peking sauce , the zesty nature cuts through any of the stronger flavours and is still complimentary to the dish without being over powering .

Certainly ,a refreshing and provoking wine and makes for a fabulous alternative to Port..

Since University I have been here a few times and that is saying alot, for I have a firm believe that a wine tasting manager or assistant can make or break a Wine Estate, there are Estates that I will never visit again because of this but Delheim does not have this problem. The Rubicon is not worth the money anymore, and I think if you can pick up a good bottle of Red (deemed not good enough for Rubicon but half the price) then you are in business. However you cannot help but get lyrical about the place, the history and art. The entire range stands up well, I do like the chardonnay

When you reach the end of the wine route in Robertson you should be quit piddled. I suggest revitalizing yourself here with a MCC. Never disappointing!

Went there on a Saturday, the wines we tasted were opened the previous Monday so it was oxidized to the max!! Can you believe it ..the humanity! They did however give us a magnum Brut to say sorry, so all is forgiven and yes…the MCC is probably the best in SA

Used to love this place (especially the whites) but do I detect a slip in quality? I think so yes…the new wholeberry is not up to standard…but overall still a great experience!

I was lucky enough to experience this yesterday – it’s an excellent pairing, and a real eye (and nose and throat) opener for fine brandies. Definitely a Swallow, not a Spit!

I was very unhappy with my visit at Vrede en Lust because the service wasn’t good at all. My friends and I sat there for about 2 hours, at times waiting for long periods, just to taste some wine and we didn’t even taste all the wines! I really looked forward to going there, but afterwards i was disappointed.

The only problem here is that the pinot noir may seem to high in tannins and yo might not appreciate the greatness of this wine…but overall a tasting experience I recommend to all…

At the time of writing this they were rated the nr 1 estate on spitorswallow …and I have to disagree… It is a great place, but I do not think they deserve this status…do love the friendliness of the staff, and the fact that you can pick different tasting formats. But hey, this is more or less were SA wine industry started right?

Bobotie and Pinotage at the restaurant…how much more Capetonian can you ask for! I love this place, it is a piece of history less than 20 minutes away from home! Wines are pretty good as well…
