Lovane is a boutique wine estate situated right next to Neethlingshof. They got their name from the the word U’Lovane, which is the Xhosa name for a Chameleon. There was apparently a lot of Chameleons on the farm back in the days.
All their wine are named after a Xhosa word. They have a Petit Verdot “Umama”, which means “mother” and a Cabernet Sauvignon “Utata”, which means “father”. Their is also a few other names like “tamkulu” (grandfather), “lliwa” (rock), “abantwana” (children), “isivuno” (harvest), “umgidi” (feast) and “iziko” (fireplace).

I visited Vredenheim a year ago and boy have they made some changes! They are definitely catering for a bigger market now with two new restaurants and a new tasting room. They even have a curio shop now as well. The wine list did not change much. The wine is easy drinking and cheap. They do not export their wine and it’s also not for sale at retail shops.
Our host Susan Viljoen was friendly and informative. We met a few regulars that visit the farm often for a quick tasting ...

Stellekaya means “home of the stars” and the host Lieze Norval is in fact a star. She was very friendly and chatty and I had a great time there. She went through all the wines and explained each of them thoroughly. The labels on the wine represented some of the star signs. Our host, JP de Toit, was very friendly and good looking and made up for the bad interior. I’m thinking of creating a “Wine Hottie” page on the site.
Meerlust is situated in a beautiful setting and it really feels as if you are visiting an historical wine farm in the heart of the Stellenbosch Hills. Living up to their well known and prestigious name, the host was very informative and friendly and gave us a rundown on the history of the farm. The prices of the wine are quite high, but at least they have a good reason. Wine is produced in very expensive barrels that are made from New French oak. The price per barrel is R14 ...

The tasting room has a relaxed and informal feel and I am especially fond of the couch corner with the fireplace….perfect for sipping wine on a chilly winter afternoon.
