Tell us about your experience at Raka
@Jan Langenhoven – not everyone is into instant gratification. Raka is just another fruit bomb, overripe, jam producer. There’s 300 other wineries exactly the same. Perhaps trying to stand out from the crowd won’t hurt his sales?
Friendly service and attention even though the place was packed to the rafters. Good wine, interesting stories…somehow don’t see these wines in my cellar in the next 10 years.
Sorry Hennie Coetzee why would you want to keep wine for three years before you drink it? Most wines are made to drink now , this is South Africa not France. Keep going Raka.
Good tasting experience. Not crazy about the style of wine Piet Dreyer produces. Buy now, drink now. I’ve found that the reds do not last beyond 3 years from vintage. Still nice for every drinking if that is your thing.
You can count on personal attention from any member of the family. The range offers something for everyone.
A great family history blended with the wines making guest feel part of it all!! a good range of wines to choose form all being well worth buying!!
close Nit family wine farm with interesting stories behind each wine.
wines are complemented by price
Born of the sea, guided by the stars, blessed by the earth…..Raka ( half man, half beast and as black as the night), is no longer just a poem by N.P van Wyk Louw, it’s a magnificent wine estate that produce top notch wines.
Situated 17 kilometres from Stanford in a glen in the Kleinrivier Mountains, Raka welcomed us with open arms. Our host Jorika, was friendly, chatty and barefoot! She shared some interesting family secrets with us, which made us feel part of the Dreyer family.
They must be blessed by the earth, because the wines on tasting were all good and well priced. Well worth a visit.
Loved this farm! It is located quite off the beaten track between Gansbaai and Hermanus, but well worth the visit.
Not very impressive from the outside, once you’re inside it is huge. Upon entry we were met by a very casual, barefoot lady, smiling from ear to ear. She explained the history behind the name Raka and was really passionate about sharing each wine’s history and hearing what we thought of it. She let us take a look at the potstills were we were lucky to see the winemaker “in action”. He was busy tasting some of the wines. We were then also led to the main cellar where we could peek around the wine barrels all waiting to be bottled.
The wines we tasted were great, easy drinking wines and we purchased before we left.
