Value for money wines, friendly staff, must visit when you are in the region..nothing stood out really
Use to think the Black Granite Shiraz was good, not so good any more.
Still has the feel of an old Co-op. Wines are old school easy drinking and quite average.
Maybe not that sophisticated, but sincere and friendly. Wines are good value for money.
They could give you a little more background on the wine you are tasting.
Does not have the feel of a wine farm – OK is a wine cellar

Taking the economic state of the world into account, we thought that it would be best to learn how to make our own wine. We woke up early on Saturday morning (6am!) to be on time for Darling Cellars’ Annual Crush day. The event started at 8am and on registration we received a bottle of wine each and coupons that can be used throughout the day. After registration we enjoyed a breakfast (all inclusive) on the outside lawn. Our host explained the order of events and we hopped onto tractors. The tractors took us on a breathtaking scenic drive and dropped us in a vineyard where we had to pick a basket full of grapes. The grapes were sweet and the bunches were huge!
Back at base camp we received a glass of wine and then the stomping started. It’s pretty gross to think that we are going to drink wine that was stomped by feet…..but as they say:”What does not kill you only makes you stronger!” There was a competition for the couple who got the most grape juice out off the grapes. We came up short (not the hard labour type I guess.) After the workout we had some more wine and then some more! We also took part in the wine label design competition which was won by a 12 year old. Well I guess we can’t compete with that!
Lunch was served and we enjoyed a yummy traditional West Coast Snoek and Patat lunch on the lawn….with some more wine. It was a great day, that included fun, laughter and new friends! (Our new friends came in third at the wine stomping…friends with benefits I would say!)
In a few months we will receive our own bottles of wine which we picked, carried and stomped. All this for the bargain price of R180 per person! I’m booking in advance for next year guys!
