Tasted through the range of wines on Bastille Day after first being shown around the cellar – nice personal touch. Stylish, elegant wines, not rushed onto the market, at very fair prices. And there’s a good fynbos project going on too.

Wonderful tasting , what a beautiful view from the farm. Really good Shiraz and Bordeaux come Australian blend plus don’t forget there white wines. Pity we could not taste there Petit Verdot.

After visiting this wonderful farm in December, I took my wife and 2 close friends there over the weekend. Once again, it was a truly memorable experience. Rob Armstrong did a 2 hour tasting and tour of the farm and really went the extra mile. I can recommend this amazing place to anybody not just because of the top class wines but also because of the personal touch so lacking in a lot of other establishments.

A must visit if you`re in the area.

Went to visit Haut Espoir on the 31st December. They were closed but Rob Armstrong, the ever gracious host took it upon himself to show us around. I had chatted to Rob once or twice before but never expected him to give up his family time to entertain a few Valies. An amazing experience and great wines. The Gentle Giant is going down a treat here in Joburg. I will definitely go back and can recommend this awesome estate to anybody.

I love this place. The view towards the Franschhoek Pass in one direction and then over Boekenhoutskloof towards Assegaaibos in the other, is phenominal. There’s a strong conservation focus – but forget about conserving your liver if you bump into Rob! This man knows wine and entertaining. The winemaker, Nikey, is a hoot and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. The reds are great and the Semillon the best!

Almost swallowed by the mountain, it is so high up and you can smell angels, their views are amazing and their wines . . . great. Rob was our host, a tall and intimidating-looking man, but your opinion quickly changes when he starts talking about his passion, not only for his own wine, but also that of the industry which in which he finds himself. Love the grandeur of the tasting tables where one can sit and take in the surroundings of the beautiful Franschhoek area while enjoying a Gentle Giant or Semillon. The windows could’ve been bigger, nevertheless it was still awesome. It was also cool to see and hear how business and nature conservation can exist in perfect synergy (which has no reference to the weekend ahead). Lovely wines, lovely people and a great farm in its entirety.

The last time I visited Haut Espoir I did not get the opportunity to meet the legendary Rob Armstrong. This time around I made an appointment with the man himself to experience his wines the Rambo way.

Nikey the winemaker and Rob’s wingman kept our glasses full until Rob arrived. The wines where yumness (as usually) and the Buchu Brandy warmed us up for Synergy 2009.

It ’s also great to see that there’s still people out there that protects animals of all shape and sizes. We had a thrilling experience when we walked past a cooler box where a injured Cape Cobra was kept in. He was release back into nature the next day. How sweet is that!

What can I say! We had an incredible tasting with Rob and Nickey at Haut Espoir. They were very informative and spoiled us by opening up some older vintages of their beautiful Chardonnay and Semillon….The farm is set up high on the Franschhoek mountains and they have the 3rd highest vineyards in Franschhoek. What a stunning location. With beautiful views over the Franschhoek valley you can only but forget about everything else while you sip away at a glass of one of their award winning wines.

My favourite….dificult to say, but the Chardonnay 2007 and their Shiraz Reserve is right up there!! love it!!

Really cool experience….thanks guys!!

We had an awesome intimate tasting experience at Haut Espoir with David Viljoen. He was friendly, talkative and even took us for a walk on the farm. Absolutely amazing views and extremely relaxed aura.

I really enjoyed their wine. Great wine and great prices. Absolute bonus! My personal favourite: 2006 Gentle Giant @ R89.

I also love the fact that they are Tree-huggers. Haut Espoir is a member of the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative which is a partnership between the wine industry and the conservation sector.

An overall great experience!
