Tell us about your experience at GlenWood
Beautiful tucked-away farm, with snow-capped peaks giving a real chill to the air the day I was there. Barrel tasting with the wine maker was a real privilege, tasting the building blocks that he uses to craft the wines, and then the final product. Love the Semillon and the Chardonnay. Reds pretty decent too.
The coolest thing about Glenwood is that they are not on the main road and hence not many people frequent it as much as the other estates which is what made our experience awesome.
We where the only ones in the tasting room and the host Inge took time to carefully explain what she could. The wines particularly the Chardonney are impressive and so is the shiraz.
Neat and tidy tasting room not the best place to relax but good enough to taste
We stopped in at Glenwood on Sunday last. Despite the pouring rain we got a very warm reception.
The whites are fantastic – I was particularly impressed with the Unwooded Chardonnay. The Shiraz was also absolutely delicious – one of my favourites of the day – good tannins and a nice peppery finish.
Definitely a hidden gem in Franschhoek – a little off the beaten track, but well worth a visit.
The mountains and everything around Glen Wood is so beautifull. Good Chardonnay and a good story behind the wines. The hostess was not to friendly, but maybe she had an off day. The surroundings made up for everything!!!
GlenWood is situated in the “best kept secret” valley of Robertsvlei, a few kilometres from Franschhoek.
Our host was friendly and informative. It was not to busy when we got there, so we had the change to engage in a quick chat.
They are apparently well know for their excellent white wines, but I preferred their reds. The prices of their whites were quite high, but they were all good. I enjoyed the reds, especially the Shiraz 2007. They also had a Syrah 2006 which was made the old way. The wine maker and his 2 sons foot-stomped all the grape that went into the Syrah.
Definitely a hidden treasure in the Franschhoek valley.
