Their tasting room is really small, which might be a problem for bigger groups, but the three of us were the only people there, so it didn’t matter. Our tasting assistant was very friendly and was clearly passionate about the wines. We spent quite some time there chatting to her while tasting their very well-priced wines. I was particularly impressed by the Petit Verdot, not a varietal found on its own very often. Unfortunately their Methode Cap Classique was not available for tasting, but I bought two bottles anyway, having heard good things about it. And I was not disappointed.

We were welcomed with one of Hennie’s Hanepoot Martini’s at 10am on a Saturday morning. It went down amazingly well, considering the fun time we had the night before. The soup on offering was out of this world and the entertainment provided by Hennie, Pieter and the rest of the Du Preez gang were even better.

After the Hanepoot Martini’s we moved onto the only Method Cap Classique that the valley has to offer. It’s named after Hendrik Lodewyk the fourth (a family name of the Du Preez) and we were honoured to meet young Hendrik Lodewyk, who is round about 5 years old.

We eventually bought the Hanepoot and the Dolla’s Red Blend which added up to only R70 for both. Yummy and extremely well priced. One can see that they have great passion for the industry and for people. What a great time we had!
