Tell us about your experience at Ernie Els Wines
Beautiful setting. LOVE the farm..and the wine…and the service. Wish I could afford to buy the wine.
Love the place. Staff are professional, know the wine and the wines are good to excellent.
Contrary to what other people have been saying, i really liked this farm. Great view. The hosts were awesome and really enjoyed tasting the excellent wines
Wow, “Sorry, say that again. R350 for this… and we didn’t even get chocolate!” Jip, not for the non-super rich. The wines were average. The only reason I went was to see what all the fuss was about. Sorry Ernie… that scores you a double bogey!
Overated!!! Save yourself visit! . . . Oh, and the mulah!!
This farm and Guardian peak should change their names to arrogance 1 and arrogance2 respectively .
R35 tasting fee for 3 wines. Yes they are huge wines with a lot of structure and depth but are they worth R300 to R500. I suppose if you are a world class golfer and you team up with an awesome wine maker you can get away with it.
A golf course green lawn, larger than life boulders and a spectacular Club House. No, we’re not at Fancourt celebrating life, we’re at Ernie Els Wines, celebrating pay day.
It’s all very spectacular. The view is breathtaking, the interior is marvelous, the staff are friendly. Very 5 star vibe.
Ernie Els wines have not only achieve sky-high ratings, but also carry fairly high price tags. You can probably get 6 other 4 star wines for the price of 1 bottle Ernie Els. Why so expensive? According to our host, they only make use of 90% French and 10% American oak barrels. They only use these barrels once, hence the steep price. Was this the only reason? Well, it was the one that she knew and said that I must rather contact their marketing manager on Monday for more information.
They had 3 wines on tasting. I enjoyed the Engelbrecht Els 2006 and the Cirrus 2006. Ironically I did not enjoy the Ernie Els 2004 that much and his the Big Papa at R525 a bottle.
I guess, if you’ve got it, flaunt it. Our budget did not have it, so back to the re-used oak barrels for us!
If a cultured man should travel far, he would also come across locals, who would tell him that when you sell in Euro, you also pay in it. Everything is more expensive – labour, production costs, bottling and the whole process expands farther than our petty untraveled South African Oafs can dream of – so when you are in SA and you deal with our costs (apart from the barrels and corks which EVERY wine farm deals with) then you set your price higher than others because you want to.
@piet retief You obviously have it, so you are aloud to flaunt it. Even though I have little knowledge, I know that I can’t invest in something that I’m probably not going to enjoy. Everyone’s taste buds are different and at the end of the day wine is made for everyone, not just for people with a lot of “travelling experience” and “culture”.
@piet retief Seems like the truth hurts. You just keep telling yourself you’re not getting ripped off.
you have obviosly not traveled much hence the ignorance, wines around the world of high caliber as ernie els are priced well above the 15 euro mark and with the awards that ernie els has won you would probably end up paying around 60 to 100 euro, hence a uncultured person with little knowledge such as yourself would find a papsak “boxed wine” more appealing than one as classy as ernie els. i give this wine farm 6 stars and the view speaks for itself.
Farm looks great, service even better, but the wine is truly an overpriced rubbish (well not rubbish, it’s ok, but not worth the money), feeling similar to buying a Mac laptop.
Just too expensive for the SA market. at cheapest R210 for a very nice tasting wine to a R 525 for the flagship Ernie Els wine that is so dry, it kills the bit of taste you might feel. add to that not the best service and you understand the 4
