Tell us about your experience at De Trafford Wines
The drive to De Trafford is an adventure on it’s own and it feels as if you enter Fairyland. We were welcomed by a very friendly Henry who introduced us to the wines one by one. Every single wine was delicious with a price tag of +/-R150. Eventually opted for the Cabernet Franc 2008.
We had a great time, so great that we were an hour late for an appointment. Definitely worth a visit!
An adventure to discover great wines. Go deep into the valley and discover this special little place, worth ever kilometer and speed bump.
WOW. It must be some of the best wines I’ve ever tasted. Not one crappy one – and I mean, not one. Beautiful cellar and surroundings. Cool dogs.
A journey definitely worth taking. If not for their fine wines, do it for the absolute pleasure of enjoying off-road bundu-bashing (google-it), fresh forests and scenic mountain ranges that makes Mt Fleur so well known and a delight to return to.
Henry, the humble cellermaster, tasting room attendant and co-star of the De Trafford magic, was there to welcome us. He is well informed, friendly and softly entertaining.
Once an architect of construction, now an architect of wine, owner and winemaker David Trafford, honours tradition by following the basic principles of wine-making and producing wines with that old familiar splendour. My favourite was the very yum Cab Franc ’08 with the magnificent Elevation ’06 in close second. The Merlot ’07 was very intriguing with notes that you would not expect from a Merlot. The entire range (incl the straw wine) is definitely something to savour but don’t take my word for it, I quite literally heard moans and groans while we were doing tasting, must’ve been the dogs…
We also had the opportunity to taste Sijnn, from their Malgas vineyard which ended the perfect tasting on a sunny yummy winters day.
Forget about the venue… just enjoy some of the best reds you will ever taste.
when you have wines this brilliant who needs an amazing tasting venue. The wines are so awesome you also forget about the treacherous road that you had to drive just to get to the farm
stunning!
